About Us

Save-a-Pet is an animal rescue centre situated near Greenbushes, Port Elizabeth that rescues, rehabilitates, reunites and re-homes abandoned, abused, lost and stray dogs and cats.

We are a Non-Profit Organisation committed to providing quality of life for the animals in our care and to helping cats and dogs in local communities.

Ideally we would like our dogs and cats to be suitably homed for life and cared for by responsible owners. While they remain at Save-a-Pet we strive to provide an environment where our animals are protected, well cared for and loved.

Our aim is to sterilize and to eliminate cruelty to animals, whether arising from ignorance, neglect or deliberate cruelty and to alleviate suffering and promote wellbeing. In addition to the more than 230 dogs and cats in our full time care, Save-a-Pet assists the surrounding informal areas as finances allow, with sterilisation to prevent unwanted litters of puppies and kittens being our main focus.

These goals come at a huge financial cost each month and we rely entirely on the generosity and goodwill of the animal-loving public for financial support.

Save-a-Pet operates in accordance with the Codes of Good Practice for South African Non-profit Organisations as stipulated by the Department of Social Development (DSD). Our Managing Committee meets monthly and ensures that we meet all requirements for our NPO status to be in good standing. This includes a current Tax Clearance Certificate, Audited Annual Financials, an Annual General Meeting which is open to the public.

As a registered NPO (Non-Profit Organisation) and PBO (Public Benefit Organisation), Save-a-Pet can issue you with a Section-18A Receipt for donations, annual membership fees and monthly sponsorships, for income tax purposes. Click here for ways to donate.

Thank you to our regular supporters and those of you who have responded to calls for help when it has been urgently needed. Words cannot adequately express our gratitude.
