Red Carpet Dog Day
Tuesday, 06 September 2011 14:43
Jeffrey's Bay was abuzz with barking dogs on Saturday August 27th 2011 as well as a noisy supporting "human" content, mainly from the J-Bay area.
Jayne Davies of InFood Restaurant and Sean Beard of Butztown organised this event, along with a committee. They laid a red carpet in the street outside the restaurant on which dogs were paraded for all to see. There were some ad-hoc categories like "the dog with the longest ears" and at was no surprise when a Bassett Hound took first prize. I entered my Cocker Spaniel, Rachel, but it was "no contest" as the Bassett won "ears down".
The main raffle, valued at more than R2000, was won by a very deserving lady from Save-a-Pet, Jenny Swarbrick and her husband Jim. They won a two night stay at Sea Notes at Seaview, breakfast for two at Elephant Walk Restaurant, Colleen Glen, PE, dinner for two at Barnacles Restaurant in Seaview and last but not least, a 2-hour game drive at Kragga Kamma Game Park, PE. Jenny is a volunteer fieldworker for Save-a-Pet and this prize will earn her a well deserved rest and some special pampering. Congratulations!
Save-a-Pet joined forces for the day with SPCA Humansdorp and both societies took home 50% of the takings on the day. On behalf of Save-a-Pet I would like to thank all concerned in the organising of this, hopefully, annual event. Royal Canin have already offered to sponsor the event in 2012, which is a great start.
